Hi all.
This is the first blog in support of The SoTight Band so bear with me here, it can only get better. The whole idea is to involve all those people who already follow the band and spread the word to those who WILL be following them over the next weeks, months and hopefully years. The blog is intended for all those who wish to add there own views on the band itself, individual members of the band, new tunes, ideas for new venues etc etc. this is going to be a fun thing, we will be adding photos, interviews with band members, suggestions on how we think we can help them with promotion, free advertising, t-shirts (JT has a great idea for the wording on both mens and womens T-shirts-more later on that). We will also be looking at holding contests for different things like maybe "how best to describe the band" to others, I.ve heard "Showband' NAH, Happiness Band NAH (sounds like something out of a Chinese whorehouse,NOT that there is anything wrong with that) I've heard references to parts of the Anatomy of the fairer sex and so on. I quite like "Hot n" Funky or Hot n Dirty anyway lets have some input here, what do YOU think? What about a Band signature tune and who agrees(or disagrees) with me that they should write their own.
Anyway this was just a very first effort, lots more to come but before signing off I just want to add that I have been very fortunate in my life to have heard some the worlds best musicians in club settings no bigger than Rossinis from Louis and Ella to Miles and Coltrane and while this band is not a "Jazz" band the standard of musicianship is absolutely awesome and i can only hope we all understand just how lucky we are to be witnessing a growing phenomenon that is " The SoTight Band " long may they be around.

Congarats Richard...excellent start! How to describe the band?? How about "The Soul of the City"?
So...Poor Richard's Almanac has finally hit the street.
Yes, after parking the car I remember walking into the Fairview Pub around 8PM on a rainy Saturday evening a couple of months ago.
We had just driven over from Rossini's where we spent that Saturday afternoon listening to Sotight. The band had just completed another steller performance there to a standing O. (They must be the only band in Vancouver that has to do almost a fourth set as an encore before they can vacate the building. God forbid there's ever a fire when they're playing.) But, I digress.
The Fairview is rather dark and almost vacant. There's a couple of guys hanging onto the bar that look like they've been there since Xmas... and a couple more in the back shooting pool. Sir Richard and Karaoke Steve are holding court at one of the high tables in the back half of the pub and nursing their first drinks for what's going to be a long night for us... and the band.
This is the band's third gig in two days. Most of them worked their regular jobs on Friday and then showed up Friday evening at the Fairview around 9PM for the 10-1am tour of duty. (Yes I was there Friday night also--such is the life of a fan-atic. So Sat night was my third shift as well.) But, I digress.
I join the guys and talk centers around how well the band is going to do. Is Peter going to nod off and play keyboard with his nose? Are the two Robs going to lose interest and lapse into a cha-cha beat for the remainder of the evening? Is JT (why play one note when eight will do) only going to play seven notes all evening long? You get the idea.
After about a half hour of rampant speculation about how well the band is going to perform there's one of those awkward lulls in the conversation. (Just what the hell is a 'lull' anyway... and who gave them the right to interrupt peoples' conversation whenever they feel like it??? Enquiring minds want to know.) But, I digress.
The silence is deafening when out of nowhere Sir Richard says "I'm going to start a blog... the band should have a blog for fans to make comments, ask questions and show their support." And while KS and I are digesting that bit of information thinking that poor SR has finally lost what little of his mind he has left... (doesn't the poor fellow realize how much work that will take) SR then asks, "How do I do that?"
Well!!! What are KS and I going to say? You guessed it. Since it wasn't our idea we wouldn't have to do any work so we both chime in with, "That's a great idea Richard, go for it."
SR and I barely know how to turn our computers on and off but not KS the Younger who immediately launches into a 20 minute dissertation in techspeak as to how easy it is to do.
I live with the bluescreens of death every day and KS after 20 minutes in some foreign language with the odd "blog" word thrown in for our benefit concludes with, "It's not that difficult."
So, only too happy to throw dirt on a man trying to dig his way out of a hole I add, "There you go Richard, it's a piece of cake."
And as Paul Harvey has said many times before, "Now you know the rest of the story."
By this time the band has arrived and started to set up. There's no question that some of the guys are dragging a bit and we are concerned about Nadine. She was already feeling somewhat peakish during the afternoon gig at Rossini's so we wonder how she's going to make it through the rest of the evening. It's not like she only sings every third or fourth number as she used to do with Billy. For the band to be 'on' she's got to be on her game all night long.
Anyway, to cut this short a bit, she make's it through the the first set and everybody survives.
Its a good first set but not a great one. There's some problems with the sound mix that have to be corrected. But the place has started to fill up and there's lots of crowd support for what the band is doing.
Nadine disappears. But, by the time the second set rolls around someone must have given her a bottle of oxygen because she's starts to rock her way through the second set and the boys are right there with her.
And you know, the third set was even better, almost as good as it was at Rossini's that afternoon.
And that's what it takes for a good band to be a great band...
...AND THAT'S WHY SR STARTED THIS BLOG.
SO CUDOS TO YOU SR FOR DOING THIS.
GREAT FANS DESERVE GREAT BANDS, AND GREAT BANDS DESERVE GREAT FANS. I THINK WE HAVE BOTH.

These 6 souls are gifted to be sure. I go to see them at Rossini's every chance I get and am always leaving with a smile on my face and tapping of my toe. Nadine is a marvel and the rest of the band is like a locomotive that can't be slowed down. Not only do these folks give there heart and soul when performing but you can tell they all love what they do. The smiles on their faces doesn't lie. It's not often you can go see a band that gives 110 % effort to their music to their fans and to each other. My gal and I are Looking forward to seeing them on May 26th at the WiseHall. I hope continued succes to the sotight band.
I'm so happy to see great things happening for this superior band. Who would've thought 5 months ago they would be in a better position than they were in? That saying things happen for a reason" is so true.
I have had the pleasure of working with So Great, I mean So Tight, and and just when I think Miss Nadine has blown me away with her vocals, I am left with my jaw hanging after Saturdays performance. Thank you for bringing me up for a song, I had a great time. You are all "Simply the Best" much love and success you so deserve,Samira www.trulytina.com
